Foundation Application & Flawless Skin- Ask Me Makeup

Finally!

I was brave enough to show me applying foundation!

I have had so many people comment on how nice my skin is, and today I am going to show you that I don’t actually have nice skin, but just a good foundation job!

I am the kind of person who needs coverage, but doesn’t want my makeup looking too caked on.

There are many ways to apply foundation, many types. This is a simple video to get you started.

I would suggest not wearing foundation all the time, or maybe opting for tinted moisturiser instead. The best thing for acne is to keep your skin clear, and not wear makeup that will block your pores. Some people suggest mineral makeup powders as the best option for acne prone skin. It made me break out even more though. I would suggest giving it a go, and see if it works for you.

I show how to apply false lashes more indepth in the Old Hollywood video. I will do a longer vid soon!

I think the best thing for people with clear skin is to use a tinted moisturiser (or just mix a couple of squirts of your moisturiser with an equal amount of foundation). There are some great sheer coverage foundations out there too. Mac has some great ones, and so do Prescriptives. Sheer coverage foundations are great to even out your skin tone, give your face a bit of a glow, but still let your natural skin shine through.

It does make my foundation last longer. But visually I don’t see a difference to how my foundation looks. It still looks the same. I wear foundation primer for the length I get out of it.

    I would suggest… …
I would suggest… and many makeup artists suggest…. owning a couple of shades of foundation. One darker (to suit your summer skin) and a lighter shade (the shade you are without your tan). Then just mix them together as your tan fades. The other alternative is to use your regular foundation but use bronzer to darken your skin. It won’t look as natural though.

I use either a brush or my fingers depending on time. If I am in a rush, I use my hands… clean hands! Just because i have a better feel for my face with my hands. I like the finish a brush gives you though.

And I think I prefer the mac concealer. But I really do alternate between both. The Napoleon one is a tad bit thinner and more comfortable for me to wear during the day. But the Mac has the power of coverage! So hard to say!!

    It’s really not a …
It’s really not a lot of makeup being caked. The moisturiser and primer are creams. So there’s no masking anything there. The only thing that covers my entire face is my liquid foundation. Then I dot on concealer under my eyes, and stick foundation on any pimples/scars to cover. If it’s just for the day, I skip the stick foundation.

OK, i love your vids. I have acne, should I use the foundation allll the time, or just when it’s time to go out etc? And, how do you actually apply fake lashes?

hey that was the best makeup video i have seen!! … i use the same moisturiser and was just wondering if that can act as a primer as my skin is fairly clear and i don’t want to be packing on layers of makeup, i want more of an unfinished natural look?

I love all your tutorials, I always like to browse through your videos before applying my own make up for inspiration ;) just a question: Over the summer I tan quite easily, and my skin tone darkens quite dramatically… I’ve tried buying a different shade of foundation to make up for it, but I’ve found that my skin color is always different every couple of months…are there any simpler solutions? (or is sunscreen the way to go?)

Why do you need all that makeup?! Isn’t it heavy? You seem to cake yourself with it! You’re very pretty, you don’t need that much makeup!

    You …
    THank you!!!

You can do it either way. I do foundation first, because I find a) foundation might cover up a lot of my under eye darkness, so just add enough concealer to mask my bags and b) concealer glides easier over foundation.

  18. askmemakeup says:

    You don’t need very …
You don’t need very much powder at all to set your face.

After I powder my face…. in fact, after I’ve done my whole face, I usually use a stippling motion with my fingers on my skin and just try to blend it all in, and make my foundation look a little worn in, and natural.

  19. askmemakeup says:

    I am looking into a …
I am looking into a good moisturiser that people use for dry skin. My skin is combination. I use Dove moisturiser. It’s gentle, smells nice, keeps my skin well balanced.

I like Mac concealers, and Stila perfecting concealer. At the moment, I am using mineral powder on my spots. I’m doing a little article about mineral makeup in my next issue of my magazine on my website. It will be available after easter!

I use only my hands …
I use only my hands in this vid, because a lot of my viewers are new to makeup. I don’t want people to think they have to have every brush to apply your makeup. You can just as easily use your fingers. I do use brushes and my hands depending on how much time I have to do my makeup. The thing to remember with fingers is to make sure your hands are clean, and to be gentle with your skin.

Some Myer and David Jones stores. I’m in Sydney. If you are here, I get it from the Mac Store in Paddington, or from Myer in the city, or David Jones in the city.

I’m going to write briefly about it in my magazine… which should be online just after easter. At the moment, I use mineral makeup/powder to cover it up.
